'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Loved Ones of Missing Teens Desperately Seek Answers After Ski Resort Inferno
The relatives of young people lost after a deadly inferno at a establishment in a Swiss winter destination are facing an painful period of uncertainty for official news and appealing for information about their loved ones publicly.
The inferno devastated the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of New Year's Day. Verified footage reveal the roof structure catching alight as bottles with fireworks are raised in celebration.
Officials have indicated that it could take considerable time to formally name the fatalities of the fire, which claimed the lives of four dozen individuals and wounded another 119. A spokesperson stated on the latest update that 113 of the those hurt have been accounted for, with efforts ongoing to locate the final individuals.
In the interim, relatives have been posting on social media to plead for information about their loved ones who were in attendance that night.
Desperate Searches for the Unaccounted For
The location of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, 16, are currently unknown, according to an public plea from his family.
The resident of a town near Lausanne, informed a local newspaper that she had returned to the city to see if he was in the medical facility, while his father did the equivalent search in Bern, but did not locate him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, a horror. Either I find my son in the morgue, or I find him in critical condition. It's horrific," she told the paper.
She added that some of his companions had been found with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they experienced a terrifying ordeal."
The Italian foreign ministry has confirmed that a number of of its nationals have not been located.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old promising athlete, who hailed from Italy but now residing in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has stated that he is deceased, without mentioning the tragedy, paying tribute to a "young athlete who carried with him dedication and authentic values."
His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a official announcement of his death is still pending.
Additional Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also among the missing. His parent explained that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with a group and ended up at the bar.
"A close friend informed me they ran away after the fire erupted and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she explained, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his educators commented, "I remember his good nature and smile, alongside great responsibility. Every time ask if help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek nationality but lives permanently in the country, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to reports.
Her sibling has published an appeal on social media, saying the relatives has had "no information" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Consular authorities from her country of origin say they are actively engaged with the developments.
